Thank you for visiting!
Here is a slightly edited version of the message I sent out to friends and supporters:
The results are in, and I was not elected to the South Milwaukee school board. However, two very good candidates earned seats and the referendum passed, so overall it is a positive. I can't say I'm not disappointed though, because once I committed to running I was really looking forward to serving and representing our kids and community, and after putting tons of time into a campaign I was hoping to have a more tangible result.
Regardless, I learned a lot during this venture... about myself, my neighbors, and my friends. I gained insight into the many viewpoints our community has, how local government operates, the impact of money on an election, how a campaign can function, and how to post long-winded messages on Facebook . I enjoyed walking or biking many South Milwaukee streets I had never been down before, and talking with hundreds of fellow citizens. It was also a surreal experience to vote for my own name on the ballot!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the outpouring of encouraging words over the course of the campaign, and especially on election day. I deeply appreciate the support I received, and hope that there isn't disappointment in my electoral loss. I decided to run primarily because of the many people who felt I would do a good job and motivated me to give it a shot, not due to any burning desire to become a politician, that's for sure! I am so blessed to have a wonderful network of family and friends.
Again, thanks for your support of "Genduso for School Board"!
